Customer churn and retention rate calculator
What share of customers you lost — and kept — over a period. It opens on a worked example — change any number. Nothing you enter is saved.
Customer churn rate
5%
- Customers at the end of the period
- 215
- Customer retention rate
- 95%
The formula
- Customer churn rate = customers lost ÷ customers at the start × 100
- Customer retention rate = (customers at the end − new customers) ÷ customers at the start × 100
How to read it
Measured this simple way, churn and retention add up to 100%. Compare periods of the same length; a monthly rate and an annual rate aren't comparable.
